Achappam - A Delicious Snack  Kerala Cuisine

I made achappam for the first time and this was a really great recipe and it came out well. I just had to add little more coconut milk than mentioned..

Hi, i tried it and it came out great for me. The only thing I added extra was a little bit more rice flour.

the recipe reads tempting. could u please tell me coconut milk(thick) - 1no is mentioned. how is this 1no taken. am new to the cooking world.

Excellent recipe, was very easy to do & everyone loved my acchapams.

Absolutely had fun making this recipe.my husband loved it.

the recipes is fab by itself, but i find that adding maida gives it a "hotel"/"bakery" taste. juat adding the appropriate rice flour in place gives it the pure naadan taste...which i remember from my grandmas homemade achapams.also adding cumin seed(maybe u could powder them ,if u dont like the bits) and most importantly Black sesame seeds improves the taste drastically.

can be made without adding maida.little cumin seeds and black seasame seeds can also be added

Thanks for posting this recipe. For the first time, I had made Achappam and it came out very good. But I had also added cardamon powder, it will taste very good. Happy Onam !

I tried to make Achappam today. The batter looks good, but it is not getting loose from the Achu as it should be. I have a brand new achu, do you think it is the reason? If yes how can I fix that? I don`t want to throw away the batter, please help

I recomend you all to add some Sesame Seeds for great taste and look.

The recipe was very good, easy to follow. One thing I would suggest is using more rice flour if you want a more crunchy, thicker achapam. Otherwise, a great recipe, thanks so much! By the way, does anyone know if they make non-stick acha`s now? Because I had a hard time getting the achapam off of the acha! Thanks again!

Its sad u doesnt even have basic knowledge of using 1 glass,watever size glass u ve put ingrediants as per the ratio given above to get proper measurments.I dont think everyone in india uses measuring glasses to prepare tastey foods eating which we r grown up.

This is for Mary. Instead of thanking Jessy for posting such a lovely recipe, it was very rude of you to respond in that manner. You want her recipe, but cannot acknowledge her measurements. If you don`t understand what she meant, who is stopping you? Go ahead and try other recipes.People like you who knows only criticize others will never be able to acknowledge the good deeds others do.

How to make it with out the mould or is there a place I can find one

Very good recipe. Came out quite well when I tried out.
Jessy, don`t get disappointed by comments from people like Mary as she fails to understand that you have all your measurements referring to "a" glass and hence the size of the glass is immaterial. Also, a glass in a common persons` term will not vary much in capacity.
Please continue to submit such good recipes.

It would be a great help if recipes were written using standard measurements. There are measuring cups and measuring spoons available in the market very easily. If contributors took a little extra trouble and gave precise measurements people would be actually able to cook these dishes. How much does one glass mean? Everybody has different glasses at home. Its a pretty site but you guys need to put in some prescise usuable content.
