Aval Payasam With Ellu

  • Aval rice flakes(Beaten rice) – 50g
  • Jaggery(Sarkara) – 75g
  • Sesame seeds(Ellu) – 25g
  • Ghee 2tbsp
  • Milk 1/2litre
  • Cashew nuts(As reqd) –
  • Raisins(As reqd, Unakka munthiri) –
  • Cardamom powder(As reqd) –
  1. Add little water to jaggery and allow it to melt. Strain and keep aside.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan and fry the cashew nuts and raisins. Remove the nuts and raisins and keep aside.
  3. Add sesame seeds to the ghee and fry.
  4. Add aval rice flakes and fry for sometime.
  5. Pour milk and some water. Stir in cardamom powder. Add melted jaggery and cook in low fire.
  6. When the aval is done, remove from fire and garnish with fried cashew nuts and raisins.
  7. Aval payasam with ellu, a south indian recipe, is ready. Serve hot.
