  1. Cook dal in a pressure cooker with turmeric powder and salt
  2. :- If you are not using a pressure cooker soak the dal in water for about an hour before you cook it.
  3. Heat oil in another pan.
  4. Splutter mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
  5. Add asafoetida powder and sautT.
  6. Add ginger, garlic and chilies and sautT for a few seconds.
  7. Add the diced onions, tomatoes and salt and continue sautTing.
  8. Add the cooked dal to this mixture and simmer for a few mins.
  9. :- Add water if it¦s too thick.
  10. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  11. :- Serve hot with bread or rice or you can even serve it as soup
  12. :- If you want to make it spicier you can try adding a dash of garam masala while its simmering.
