A hot and sweet fish curry

  1. Heat half the oil in a pan.
  2. Saute for 5 mins, until chillies begin to go dark in colour.
  3. Add onions and fry, stirring constantly, for about 8 mins.
  4. When the onions are soft, remove the mixture and spread on a tray to cool.
  5. When cool, grind it to a very fine paste along with tamarind pulp and a little water, if necessary. Keep it aside.
  6. Heat the remaining oil in a deep frying pan.
  7. Splutter mustard seeds.
  8. Add the ground onion paste and stir well.
  9. Add water to make a sauce consistency.
  10. Add jaggery and salt and mix well.
  11. Bring the contents to a boil.
  12. Remove any scum from the surface with a slotted spoon.
  13. Add the fish pieces.
  14. Cook for approximately ten mins, until the fish is cooked.
