  • Long grain rice – 3cups
  • Cooked long grain rice(Choru) – 1cup
  • Coconut milk 1cup
  • Water(As reqd) –
  • Salt 1tsp
  • Sugar 2tsp
  • Yeast – 1tsp
  • Luke warm water(As reqd to dissolve yeast) –
  • Milk 1/4cup
  1. For preparing Kerala Appam – Traditional dish, first grind together long grain rice and cooked rice very well with coconut milk and enough water, to make a batter of dripping consistency.
  2. :- Make sure not to make the batter too watery.
  3. Pour this in a vessel.
  4. Dissolve yeast in a little lukewarm water and add sugar. Mix well.
  5. Add this to the batter and stir it well.
  6. Place this in a warm place overnight for fermentation to make nice appam.
  7. Add salt and milk and mix well.
  8. Make appam on an appakara.
  9. :- Serve appam hot.
