  • Raw Rice(Pachha Ari) – 3cups
  • Green gram(Cheruparippu) – 1cup
  • Cardamom(Elakka) – 8nos
  • or –
  • Asafoetida powder(Kayam) – 2tbsp
  • Butter – 100gm
  • Salt(As reqd) –
  • Oil for frying –
  1. Wash and clean the rice well. Let it out to dry.
  2. Once it has dried completely, powder it nicely along with the green gram.
  3. Mix these two powders well along with powdered cardamom or asafoetida, butter and salt. Do not add water.
  4. Take a little of this mixture and add water to it to get a dough like consistency.
  5. Heat oil in a kadai or a pan.
  6. :-To test if it is hot enough, drop a pinch of dough into it. If it sinks, the oil isn`t hot enough. If the dough springs to the top with bubbles all around it, then the oil is ready.
  7. Put a portion of the dough in a manangombu squeeze and pass through the strainer into the hot oil.
  8. Fry till golden brown.
  9. :- Store in an air tight container.
