Ingredients
Basmati rice : 1 ½ cup –
Potato
, diced : 1 large –
Shelled
green peas
: ½ cup –
Chopped tomatoes : 2 nos –
Cinnamon stick : 2 –

Bay leaves : 2 nos –
Cardamom
pods : 2 to 3 nos –
Cloves
– 3 –

Star anise
: 1 no –
Onion
, sliced : 3 nos –
Ginger
garlic
paste : 1 tsp –
Turmeric powder
: ½ tsp –
Red
chilli powder
: 1 tsp –
Water
: 3 cups –
Chopped coriander leaves : few –
Oil
: 3 tsp –
Salt
: as reqd –
Instructions
Wash the basmati rice and soak in
water
for 30 minutes.
Heat
oil
in a sauce pan and add
star anise
, cinnamon stick, bay leaf,
cloves
and
cardamom
.
Add the sliced
onion
and sauté for about 2 – 3 minutes. To this add
ginger
garlic
paste and sauté for 1 more minute.
Now add the washed rice,
green peas
, cubed potatoes, tomatoes,
turmeric powder
, red
chilli powder
and
salt
sauté for 2 more minutes.
Add the
water
(room temperature) and cover the pan with a lid and cook for 20 minutes on a low flame.
Serve with raita.
