  1. Wash the basmati rice and soak in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a sauce pan and add star anise, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, cloves and cardamom.
  3. Add the sliced onion and sauté for about 2 – 3 minutes. To this add ginger garlic paste and sauté for 1 more minute.
  4. Now add the washed rice, green peas, cubed potatoes, tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt sauté for 2 more minutes.
  5. Add the water (room temperature) and cover the pan with a lid and cook for 20 minutes on a low flame.
  6. Serve with raita.
