Vattayappam is a typical Kerala sweet dish. Vattayappam is one of the traditional and healthiest tea time snack without oil. Vattayappam is very soft and fluffy.

  • White rice(soak for 4-5 hours, pachari ) – 2cup
  • Grated Coconut 1cup
  • Cooked rice(A handful) –
  • Instant yeast – 1/2tsp
  • Sugar 4-5tbsp
  • Cardamom 4
  • Water as required –
  • Ghee for grease –
  • Salt to taste –
  • Cashews /Raisins for garnishing –
  1. Grind the soaked rice with coconut, rice, instant yeast, salt, sugar and cardamom along with required water.The batter should be thick and keep it aside for 3 – 4 hours.
  2. Apply a little ghee in a cake tin and pour the batter into it.Put some raisins, cashews on the top.Steam it for 15 -20 minutes.
  3. Vattayappam is ready. Serve hot with tea or coffee.
