Dates Chutney Easy

Minced dates cooked with jaggery, tamarind and other ingredients. Apt chutney for biriyani.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Dates minced
  • Ginger a small piece, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic chopped
  • 2 nos Green chillies sliced round
  • Tamarind a small ball, Puli
  • 1 tbsp Gingelly oil Nallenna
  • 1/4 cup Onion finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp Chilly powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Jaggery powdered, Sarkara
  • Mustard seeds A pinch
  • Fenugreek A pinch, Uluva
  • Salt As reqd

Instructions
 

  • For preparing dates chutney, first soak tamarind in little water and add jaggery. Sieve and collect the tamarind extract.
  • Heat gingelly oil and splutter mustard and fenugreek seeds.
  • Add onion, ginger, garlic, green chillies and saute for a few minutes.
  • Lower the flame and add chilly powder, tamarind extract and required salt.
  • Finally, add minced dates and cook in low fire until done. Remove from fire and allow it to cool. Dates chutney, an apt side dish for biriyani is ready.
  • When dates chutney has cooled down, store in a glass bottle and refrigerate for longer period of storage.
