Coconut Fish Curry (naadan)

Dishes like Coconut Fish Curry are quite popular in Kerala Cuisine where coconuts are plenty. Fish pieces cooked in a spicy aromatic coconut rich gravy is indeed awesome. Fish is nutritious loaded with ample nutritional requirements needed for the human body. Coconut Fish Curry with a natural blend of spices and an apt dose of tangy tamarind makes the dish a perfect delicacy with hot rice. Easy to prepare coconut fish curry is a traditional favorite that goes well with tapioca, rice etc. The spicy tangy flavor is tempting and definitely worth a try. Grated coconut is ground to a fine paste adding essential spices and seasoned in coconut oil along with other ingredients. Tangy tamarind is added and the mixture is diluted to make a curry base. Fish pieces are simmered in the mixture until gravy is thick and aromatic. Enjoy the dish.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lbs Fish preferrably small fish or cut the fish into one inch pieces
  • 3/4 cup Coconut Scraped
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp Corriander powder
  • 1 cup Red onion sliced
  • 2 nos Green chillies cut into 2 pieces
  • 1 string Curry leaves
  • Tamarind make a juice of 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 pinch Mustard seeds

Instructions
 

  • Grind the coconut with the chilli,turmeric and corriander powders and make a fine paste. :-If you want the coconut to be seen in pieces then make a coarse paste.
  • Heat the oil in a non-stick tawa. Break mustard seeds and put onions, green chillies and curry leaves.
  • Make it half cooked.
  • Pour the paste made of coconut and curry powders and heat well after adding tamarind juice.
  • Add one cup water and boil and put the fish into the boiling mixture and make it boil again :-Add water if required.
  • Reduce the flame and cook closed and slowly stir occasionally from sides as the fish may get scrambled if stirred forcefully.
