Soak all the dals in water for about 20 - 30 mins.
Pressure cook all the different types of dals together with a pinch of turmeric and drop of oil for about 4 whistles atleast, so that they are well cooked.
Allow to cool and then mash the dal well and keep aside.
Grate the tomato and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
Splutter cumin seeds.
Add the chopped onions and saute till light brown.
Add in the grated tomato and cook well.
Add 1 tsp of cumin powder and cook for a minute.
Add in the mashed dal and mix well.
Add a little water if required and allow to cook for 5 mins, till it all blends well.
Add in the salt to taste.
:- The dal has to be of thick consistency.
When done, remove from stove.
Add a tbsp of curds and mix it well.
:- Serve hot with chappathi/rotis.
:- You may use any type of dal. Using 4 - 5 different types of dal adds to nutrition value.
:- If u do not have curds, u may use a tbsp of lime juice instead.
