Easy To Make Dal

A very simple tasty easy to make dal dish with mango and bhindi

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Red gram Thuvaraparippu
  • 5 - Raw mango optional
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Green gram A little, Cheruparippu
  • Black gram A little, Uzhunnuparippu
  • 2 - Dry red chillies Kollamulaku
  • Cumin seeds A little, Jeerakam
  • Salt As reqd
  • Turmeric powder A pinch
  • Chilli powder As reqd
  • Dal masala optional
  • Lady`s finger(Bhindi/Vendakka) (optional)
  • Lemon juice (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Take 1 cup of red gram in a pressure cooker.
  • Wash it twice with water.
  • Drain the water and add twice the amount of water.
  • Add little salt and turmeric powder.
  • Add mango pieces and pressure cook upto 3 whistles.
  • Heat 1 tsp of oil in a pan.
  • Splutter mustard seeds.
  • Add cumin seeds, green gram, black gram and red chillies.
  • Add bhindis, if desired at this stage.
  • :- Do not pour any water.
  • Add salt, chilli powder and dal masala(if available).
  • Cover and cook for 10 mins.
  • Once the pressure has gone, open the cooker.
  • Add the dal to the pan.
  • Mix all contents well.
  • Check taste once to see if salt/spice is okay.
  • Cover and leave it to boil.
  • :- Serve with hot rice and papad.
  • :- You can even squeeze a little lemon juice.
