Basmati rice : 1½ cup
Sliced onion : 1 nos
Cumin seeds : 1 tsp
Water : 3 cup
Sugar : 2 tsp
Cloves, coarsely crushed : 3 nos
Cinnamon sticks, coarsely crushed : 3 nos
Black peppercorns, coarsely crushed : 4 nos
Cardamoms, coarsely crushed : 3 nos

Instructions
Wash and soak the rice in water and keep aside for 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a deep bottom pan and fry the whole garam masala.
After it crackles add the sliced onion and fry till golden brown in color.

Add sugar and soaked rice and fry for 2 - 3 minutes.

Add salt and water and cover the pan and cook on a low flame for 20 minutes till the water has evaporated and rice is cooked.

Serve with dal and salad.
