Healthy Oats Upma

Oats cooked with other ingredients and garnished with grated coconut

Ingredients
  

  • 100 g Oats soaked and drained
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • 3 nos Shallots finely chopped, Kunjulli
  • 1 no Red chilly cut in half
  • 1/4 tsp Ginger chopped
  • Asafoetida A pinch, Kayam
  • 1/4 cup Coconut grated
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp Coconut oil
  • Salt As reqd

Instructions
 

  • For preparing healthy oats upma, heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds.
  • When the mustard seeds splutter, add urad dal, shallots, ginger, red chilly and and curry leaves.
  • When the urad dal is golden brown in color, add soaked oats, required salt and asafoetida.
  • Mix well and cook covered in low flame till done. Stir in between.
  • Now add the grated coconut, mix gently and serve hot.
  • Oats upma, a healthy breakfast recipe for kids as well as elders, is ready.
