Fish Curry In Malabar Style

Fish curry with ground coconut in typical Malabar style

Ingredients
  

  • 250 g Fish cut into even sized pieces, Any fleshy fish
  • 1 no Onion sliced
  • Ginger chopped
  • 3 flakes Garlic crushed
  • 3 nos Green chillies sliced
  • 1 no Tomato sliced
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek Uluva
  • Tamarind soaked in water, Valan puli
  • Coconut oil As reqd
  • Curry leaves Few
  • Salt As reqd

To be ground:

  • 1/2 of Coconut grated
  • 1/2 tsp Chilly powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder

Instructions
 

  • For preparing fish curry in malabar style, first heat coconut oil in a pan and crackle fenugreek seeds.
  • Add onion, ginger, garlic, green chillies and tomato. Saute well. Meanwhile grind the grated coconut, chilly powder, coriander powder and turmeric to a fine paste.
  • Add ground coconut to the fried onion mixture and add one cup of water. Bring the curry to boil.
  • Lower the heat and add the fish pieces. Add tamarind pulp and bring to boil.
  • Cook the fish pieces in medium heat until the gravy has acquired a thick consistency and the fish pieces are done.
  • Add curry leaves and remove from fire.
  • Fish curry in malabar style is ready. Serve hot.
