Ingredients
  

  • 50 ml Oil Gingely oil preferred
  • 2 tbsp kadugu
  • 1/2 tbsp Menthyl seeds venthayam
  • 1 tbsp Red gram Thuvaraparippu
  • 3 nos Onions medium
  • 3 tbsp Sambar powder
  • Tamarind A big lemon sized, Puli
  • Salt As reqd
  • Curry leaves A few
  • Asafoetida(Kayam)

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a tava.
  • Add the cumin seeds, menthyl seeds and red gram.
  • When the dhal becomes golden in colour, add the onions and fry them till it`s golden brown.
  • Add the sambar powder and fry for 1 min.
  • Add the tamarind paste (made in 3 cups of water).
  • Add salt and allow it to boil for 10 - 15 mins, until it thickens to a gravy.
  • Add curry leaves and asafoetida.
  • :- Serve it with hot rice.
  • :- You can use brinjal, drumstick too etc instead of onions.
