Instructions
Heat oil in a tava.
Add the cumin seeds, menthyl seeds and red gram.
When the dhal becomes golden in colour, add the onions and fry them till it`s golden brown.
Add the sambar powder and fry for 1 min.
Add the tamarind paste (made in 3 cups of water).
Add salt and allow it to boil for 10 - 15 mins, until it thickens to a gravy.
Add curry leaves and asafoetida.
:- Serve it with hot rice.
:- You can use brinjal, drumstick too etc instead of onions.
