Kerala Vazhakka Thoran | Raw Banana Thoran

Ingredients
  

  • 250 g Raw plantain Vazhakka
  • 4 nos Green chillies
  • 1/2 of Coconut grated
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 4 nos Garlic cloves
  • 3 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Salt As reqd
  • Curry leaves Few
  • 2 tsp Plain rice
  • 2 nos Dry red chillies Kollamulaku

Instructions
 

  • For preparing the traditional styled dish, slowly peel off the outer surface of the plantain skin and finely chop them.
  • Put the chopped pieces in water.
  • Add a little gruel water(Kanji vellam) into the above water and keep it for sometime. :- This is done to get rid of the serum.
  • Place the above chopped plantain pieces along with turmeric powder, water and required salt in a vessel and allow it to cook. Keep this aside.
  • Place grated coconut, cumin seeds, green chillies, garlic cloves and curry leaves in a mixer bowl and run it once into a coarse form.
  • Mix together the coconut mixture with the cooked plantain.
  • Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
  • Splutter mustard seeds and saute red chillies, rice and curry leaves.
  • Add the plantain mixture and mix well.
  • Lower the flame and cook the thoran till done.
