Vazhachundu Thoran

Ingredients
  

  • 1 no Vazhachundu Kudappan
  • 150 g Whole green gram Cherupayar
  • 1/2 of Coconut grated
  • 3 nos Green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 4 nos Garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 2 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves Few
  • Salt As reqd
  • 2 nos Dry red chillies Kollamulaku
  • 1 tbsp Rice Pachari/Puzhukkalari

Instructions
 

  • For preparing Vazhachundu Thoran, clean the whole green gram well and remove the unwanted stuff from it.
  • Cook it separately with water in a pressure cooker.
  • :- Make sure u don't overcook it.
  • Remove the first 3 to 4 outer covering of the vazhachundu and chop it very finely as u do for thoran.
  • Add coconut oil and turmeric powder into the above chopped kudappan and mix well the whole thing using your hands.
  • :- This is done to remove the kudappan's serum.
  • Place together the grated coconut, green chillies, garlic, cumin seeds and curry leaves in a mixer bowl and run it once to make it into a coarse form.
  • Mix it along with the chopped kudappan mixture.
  • Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
  • Splutter mustard seeds and saute dry red chillies, rice and curry leaves.
  • Add the kudappan mixture and mix well.
  • Cover and cook on a low flame.
  • After about 3 mins, remove the cover and add the cooked green gram into this and mix well.
  • Continue cooking without the lid on, till done.
  • :- Make sure Vazhachundu Thoran doesn't get mashed. :- You can also add Red gram (Van Payar) instead of Whole green gram or Cherupayar.
