Grind together shallots, ginger, garlic pods and green chillies with a little water.
Heat oil in a pan or kadai.
Add the chopped onion and saute well, till it is softened.
Add the ground mixture into it and saute well, till the raw smell leaves.
Add salt, coriander powder, turmeric powder and the garam masala powder.
Add tomato pieces and mix well, till the oil clears.
Add a little water and cover with the lid.
Keep it on low flame for 5 mins.
Grind the coconut and poppy seeds together.
Open the lid and pour the coconut mix along with a little more water.
Allow it to boil well.
Switch off the flame.
Garnish with curry leaves and coriander leaves.
:- Serve hot with chappati or dosai.
