Tamil Nadu Lemon Rasam

  • 3 tbsp Red gram Thuvaraparippu
  • 3 to Green chillies
  • 1 no Tomato large
  • 1 to Lemon
  • Turmeric powder A pinch
  • Salt As reqd
  • Oil for seasoning
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing


  • Heat some oil in a pan.
  • Slit open the green chillies and fry them till they turn white.
  • Remove the chillies from the oil.
  • Boil the red gram/dal.
  • Put the fried chillies and chopped tomatoes with a pinch of turmeric powder in a small vessel and pressure cook it.
  • Mash & take the pulp of chilly tomato and add it to 1 cup water and bring to boil.
  • When it starts boiling, mash the boiled dhal well and add to the boiling mixture.
  • Do not allow this mixture to boil.
  • Once done, switch off the flame and then add lemon juice and salt as per taste.
  • Season with mustard seeds and garnish with coriander leaves.
  • :- Serve hot with rice or just DRINK IT!!!
