Karkadaka Puzhukku

Karkadakam is the time when the monsoon reach its peak. Karkadaka puzhukku is a traditional,nutritious recipe and easy to prepare. This specialty is made during the month of Karkkidakam, when the heavy rains are likely to pave the way for ill health.

  • 1/2 cup Yam chena
  • 1/2 cup Taro chembu
  • 1/2 cup Taro stem here I didn't use, chembu thal
  • 1/4 cup Tapioca kappa
  • 1 cubed Raw Banana pacha kaya
  • 8 finely Small onion
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp Chilli powder
  • 3 Green chilli
  • 2 Dried red chilli
  • Curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Salt to taste


  • Cut and wash all the vegetables and keep it aside.
  • Pressure cook the washed vegetables with salt, turmeric,chilli powder and little water for 2 whistles.
  • Heat coconut oil in a pan,splutter mustard seeds,add dried red chilli and saute it.Then add small onions along with green chillies,curry leaves and saute it well.
  • Add the cooked vegetables to the pan and mix well.
  • Karkadaka Puzhukk is ready.Serve hot with Kanji,pickles and pappadam.
