Millet Dal Rice

Its a delicious traditional south Indian dish that has been forgotten by the present generation. This dish is absolutely tasty and healthy and has the right balance of nutrients in it. This is very simple and easy to prepare. The millet can be substituted with other millet like little millet or fox tail millet .We have used bran yard millet. This was a staple breakfast of south India in ancient times.

Ingredients
  

  • bran yard millet or foxtail millet 1 cup
  • toor dal 1/4 cup
  • onion 1
  • tomato 1
  • garlic pods 3
  • curry leaf few
  • mustard 1 sp
  • ghee 2 sp
  • salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • soak dal and millet for 15 mind in water
  • cut shallots, tomato and take garlic pods with chilli and curry leafs
  • in ghee saute mustard ,then onion, tomato ,garlic and curry leaf
  • now transfer every thing to the pressure pan along with the dal and millet add salt
  • add water of 3 cups in the same cup that you measured rice and dal add salt and pressure cook it for 3 whistles
  • now our tasty millet dal rice is ready to serve
