Valaipoo Usli

Usili is a Traditional South Indian (tamil) curry/side dish prepared with lentils and vegetables. Usually paruppu usili is made toor dal and in addition we add valaipoo and good taste too

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Valaipoo
  • 1 cup Toor Dal
  • 3 Red chili
  • 1 tsp Fennel seed
  • 2 tblsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • Curry leaves littlr
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
  • Salt as taste

Instructions
 

  • Clean valaipoo . i already posted cleaning method in valaipoo aadai. or remove that stem inside as seen in the pic and chop
  • Soak toor dal for 1/2 an hour , in a jar add red chili and fennel seeds and coarsely grind and add dal , salt and grind coarsely and keep aside.
  • In idly plate apply oil and spread toor dal mixture and steam for 10 mins
  • In mean time cook valaipoo with salt and turmeric
  • In a pan add oil and temper mustard, asafoetida and curry leaves
  • Now add toorl dal mixture and valaipoo and combine together cook for 5 mins
