Naadan Matthi (Sardine) Curry

A naadan dish with Sardines (Matthi)

Ingredients
  

  • 15 small Sardine Mathi
  • 1 no Tomato
  • 6 nos Small onion
  • 1/4 inch Ginger
  • 3 nos Garlic
  • 2 nos Green chillies
  • Curry leaves A few
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp Kashmiri chilly powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Fenugreek
  • Mustard seeds
  • 2 pieces Kokum soaked in water, Kudampuli
  • Coconut oil

Instructions
 

  • Mix all the powders adding water.
  • Heat oil in an earthen pot.
  • Splutter mustard and fenugreek seeds.
  • Add sliced small onions and saute.
  • When the onion becomes soft, add ginger, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves and sauté till the raw smell goes.
  • Add tomatoes and sauté till it is soft.
  • Add the masala paste and stir for sometime.
  • Add water and allow it to boil.
  • Add the sardines and salt to taste.
  • Cover and cook on a medium flame.
  • After 10-15 mins, open the lid.
  • :- Serve with tapioca or rice.
