Wash and clean the chicken and keep aside.
Heat oil in a kadai. Add chopped onion and saute till it turns golden colour.
Lightly fry the poppy seeds and grind it with ginger, garlic, cinnamon, cardamom, green chillies and cloves.
Add the above masala with the sauteed onions in the pan and stir for a few seconds.
Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
Add chicken pieces. Stir well for 2 minutes on medium flame.
Cover with a lid and allow to cook on very low flame.
:- Do Not allow to burn the curry. So keep stirring every few seconds. If necessary you can add ½ cup of boiled water into the chicken.
Transfer the contents to a serving bowl.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
