Sambar Pongal - Sambar Rice

Sambar Pongal, Variety type of pongal cooked with raw rice and vegetables.

Ingredients
  

  • 200 g Raw rice
  • 100 g Toovar dal Tuvara parippu
  • 50 g Carrot
  • 2 nos Drum stick
  • 2 nos Potato
  • Tamarind lemon size
  • 1 cup Coconut grated
  • 5 nos Red chillies
  • 2 tsp Chana dal kadalaparippu
  • 2 tsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt As reqd
  • 1 tsp Coconut oil

Instructions
 

  • For preparing sambar pongal, wash toovar dal and raw rice in water.
  • Cut carrot, potato and drumstick into small pieces.
  • Grind coconut, red chillies, chana dal, coriander seeds and cumin seeds. Soak tamarind in water and squeeze it out to make tamarind water.
  • Add toovar dal, rice and vegetables into tamarind water.
  • Add turmeric powder and salt.
  • Cook the item in pressure cooker.
  • Fry mustard seeds and curry leaves in coconut oil and add to the mixture.
  • Sambar pongal - Sambar Rice is ready.
