Kerala Urad Dal Vada

Split black gram is ground into a fine paste and then fried in hot oil

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Split black gram Uzhunnu parippu
  • 4 nos Green chillies chopped finely
  • 5 nos Curry leaves chopped finely
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida powder Kayam
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper powder
  • Oil As reqd
  • Salt As reqd

Instructions
 

  • For preparing kerala urad dal vada, soak split black gram for two hours.
  • Wash the split black gram and grind with green chillies, curry leaves, asafoetida, pepper powder and salt.
  • Kindly ensure that no water is added. You should be able to get a thick dough.
  • Heat oil in a thick bottomed pan.
  • Take spoonfuls of the vada mixture and add it into the hot oil.
  • Immediately, make a hole in the center of the batter with a steel stick or back of a steel spoon.(This should be done in the hot oil to get the shape right) 7)Kerala urad dal vadas are ready. Serve hot with chutney for breakfast.
