Pumpkin-Mathanga Sambar

A traditional kerala sambar recipe with pumpkin

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Red gram Thuvara daal
  • 1/2 cup Onion chopped
  • 1 cup Pumpkin cut into small squares
  • 3 nos Green chillies split
  • Curry leaves Few
  • Salt As Reqd
  • 1/4 cup Tamarind water
  • 2 tbsp Sambar powder
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 3 nos Red chillies

Instructions
 

  • For preparing mathanga sambar, first cook daal in 3 cups of water.
  • Add onion, chopped pumpkin, green chillies, curry leaves, tamarind water, sambar powder and salt.
  • Cook for some time until the pumpkin becomes soft. Remove from flame.
  • Fry mustard seeds and red chilly in oil and pour it into mathanga sambar.
  • Enjoy the Mathanga Sambar with rice.
