Podi Sambar - Brahmin Special

Tuvar dal, ladies finger, carrot and other ingredients are cooked with tuvar dal to make podi sambar

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups Tuvar dal
  • 5 nos Ladies finger sliced
  • 1 no Radish sliced
  • 1 no Carrot sliced
  • 100 g Pumpkin sliced
  • 2 nos Onion
  • 1 no Potato sliced
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 4 tbsp Sambar powder
  • 1 tbsp Red chilly powder
  • Asafoetida A pinch, Kayam
  • 2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Tamarind lemon size
  • 2 tsp Ghee
  • Salt As reqd

Instructions
 

  • For preparing podi sambar - brahmin special, wash tuvar dal and boil it with 4 cups of water with a pinch of turmeric powder in pressure cooker.
  • Soak tamarind in water and squeeze it out.
  • Fry vegetables 2 to 7 (from ladies finger to Potato) in ghee.
  • Then add fried items to tamarind water and boil for a few minutes.
  • While boiling, add sambar powder, red chilly powder and salt.
  • Add the boiled tuvar dal(item 1) to this mixture and keep boiling for few minutes.
  • Add asafoetida.
  • Fry mustard seeds in coconut oil and add to this mixture.
  • Add curry leaves. Podi sambar - brahmin special recipe, is ready.
