Spicy North Indian Curry

A mixture of gram flour and yogurt is seasoned with asafoetida, red chilly and other ingredients

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp Gram flour/Besan Kadala mavu
  • 1 tbsp All purpose flour Maida
  • 1 cup Yogurt
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 1 no Green chilly chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger chopped
  • 1 no Garlic clove crushed
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Turmeric A pinch
  • 1 no Red chilly broken
  • Asafoetida powder A pinch, Kayam
  • 1 sprig Curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • Salt As reqd
  • 2 cups Water
  • Coriander leaves chopped

Instructions
 

  • For preparing spicy north indian curry, beat together besan flour, maida and yogurt to a smooth blend without any lumps.
  • Add green chilly, ginger, garlic, curry leaves, sugar and required salt.
  • Keep the mixture on low flame for a few minutes till starts boiling. Remove the pan from the fire and keep aside.
  • For tempering, melt butter in a pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add cumin seeds and fry.
  • Add red chilly, asafoetida, turmeric and fry in low heat for a few seconds.
  • Stir it into the besan curd mixture and allow it to simmer for 2 minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving. 5)Spicy north indian curry, a yummy favorite with kids as well as elders, is ready. Serve with rice or roti.
