Ingredients

  • 1 cup Cabbage thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup Carrot grated
  • 1/2 cup Potato boiled and mashed
  • 1 small Onion sliced
  • 3/4 cup Gram dal flour Besan/Kadala mavu
  • 1/4 cup Rice flour
  • 1 tsp Ginger crushed
  • 1/4 tsp garlic crushed
  • 2 nos Green chillies finely chopped
  • Red chilly powder A pinch
  • 2 sprigs Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tbsp Hot oil
  • Salt As reqd
  • Oil For deep frying

Instructions

  • Mix together all the ingredients except oil for deep frying: sliced cabbage, carrot, potato, onion, besan, rice flour, ginger-garlic paste, green chillies, red chilly powder, chopped curry leaves, 1/2 tbsp hot oil and required salt, well with your fingers. 2)Sprinkle few drops of water if necessary to form a slightly hard batter. The batter should just coat the cabbage and onion pieces(as onion and cabbage has enough water there is no need to add much water).
  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan, reduce heat to medium and drop the batter into oil to form small fritters.
  • Deep fry the cabbage pakodi to a golden brown color. Using a ladle, turn the fritters upside down, to cook evenly on all sides.
  • Remove cabbage pakodi onto an absorbent paper and store in air tight containers to serve as an evening time snack over a cup of hot tea.
