Prawn - Sorrel Special

Spicy prawn soup with sorrel leaves

Ingredients
  

  • 500 g Prawns cleaned and de-veined
  • 250 ml Refined oil
  • 2 cups Sorrel leaves
  • 2 cups Onions finely chopped
  • 100 g Tamarind Puli
  • 6 nos Green chillies split
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Poppy seeds
  • 2 small Ginger piece
  • 1 tsp Garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt As reqd

Instructions
 

  • Clean the prawns and keep aside.
  • Grind one cup of chopped onions, poppy seeds and ginger piece into a smooth paste. Extract pulp from tamarind.
  • Add oil to a deep bottomed pan and heat. Splutter mustard seeds. Add remaining onions and fry well. Now add garlic paste, turmeric powder, sorrel leaves and green chillies.
  • Add the prawns and enough salt and cook for few minutes. Add the tamarind pulp and mix thoroughly. Cook until all the ingredients are well blended. Serve with rice.
