Take a deep bottomed pan, add three spoons of ghee and heat. Add bombay rava and fry in low flame until the rava turns into light brown. Remove the rava and keep aside.
Add the remaining ghee and heat. Splutter mustard seeds and add cashew nuts and fry. Add chopped onions, chopped green chillies, bengal gram and curry leaves. Fry until onions turn brown.
Add about 2 glasses of water and allow to boil. To this add the fried bombay rava and stir continuously. Add sufficient salt and continue stirring.
The contents become thick as the cooking goes on. Remove the pan from stove after the cooking is done.
