Hotel style sambar for tiffin

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup Red gram
  • 1 pod Garlic crushed
  • 2 nos Onion chopped
  • 2 nos Tomato chopped
  • 1 tbsp Chilly powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida Kayam
  • Salt As reqd
  • 1/2 tsp Jaggery
  • Oil As reqd
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 4 nos Dry red chillies
  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 1 tbsp Bengal gram
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek Uluva
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1" inch Cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp Coconut grated
  • Tamarind cherry size

Instructions
 

  • Pressure cook red gram, garlic, 1 onion, 1 tomato, chiily powder, turmeric powder & asafoetida together with required water. After it is cooked, cool it & smash it. Keep it aside.
  • Heat little oil in a kadai and fry ingredients: dry red chillies, coriander seeds, bengal gram, fenugreek, cumin seeds, cinnamon and grated coconut. Cool it and grind it with tamarind(if needed add water while grinding).
  • Splutter mustard seeds and then add 1 onion(chopped) and 1 tomato(chopped). Cook till raw smell goes.
  • Now mix cooked dhal with garlic and required salt. Add water according to thickness you prefer. Let it boil for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Add jaggery to it and let it cook for 1 min..
  • Hot sambar is ready. Serve with idly, dosa, vadi etc.
