Moong Dal(Cherupayar) Spinach - Cheera Curry

A healthy and comfort food with spinach and dal accompanies with rice or roti. Dal is a good source of proteins and spinach is rich in anti-oxidants,folic acid and iron.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Moong Dal cherupayar parippu
  • Spinach A handful, Cheera
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 2-4 nos Green chillies or red chillies
  • 1 cup Coconut grated
  • Coriander leaves Few, or curry leaves
  • 2 tsp Coconut oil or olive oil
  • Pepper optional
  • Salt As reqd
  • Mustard seeds Few, optional

Instructions
 

  • Lightly cook Moong dal(Cheru payar parippu) in sufficient water along with turmeric powder, until soft. Add sliced spinach or cheera leaves before the dal cooks well.
  • Grind coconut into a fine paste with green chillies, garlic & cumin seeds. Add this paste into cooked parippu with salt and pinch of pepper.
  • Cook for 3 minutes covered on light flame. Do not cook more after adding coconut.
  • Add coconut/Olive oil and coriander leaves.
  • Splutter mustard in 1 tsp boiled oil and mix it with curry.(This is optional)
  • Stir well. Note: Creamy state is more tasty.
  • Served with rice/chappathi/naan/ poori/bread.
