Naan - The Indian Bread

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups Refined wheat flour / maida
  • 1 cup Milk
  • Water as reqd
  • 1/2 tsp Soda bi carbonate
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 2 tbsp Yogurt
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • black Onion seeds
  • 2 tsp and pumpkin seeds
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 2 tsp Butter
  • 1 whisked Egg optional

Instructions
 

  • Sieve the flour with baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl,combine the sugar,milk yogurt,eggs and water,kneading until the dough is soft.
  • Cover the dough in a wet cloth and set aside for an hour.
  • Divide the dough into 8 equal balls.
  • Smear a little oil and spread onion seeds on top.
  • Flatten the ball between the palm of your hands by rotating and flattening in the same motion.
  • Continue till you have a flat disc of 6 cms.
  • Now, stretch it from the lower end to form a triangle (as in picture).
  • Use a thick cloth to put the naan on a pre-heated tandoor or in a pre- heated oven at 200 degrees centigrade.
  • Remove using a skewer when the naan is crisp and brown.
  • :- Serve hot with a dollop of butter.
