Naan - The Indian Bread

Refined
wheat flour
/ maida
1
cup
Milk
Water
as reqd
1/2
tsp
Soda bi carbonate
1
tsp
Baking powder
2
tbsp
Yogurt
2
tbsp
Oil
1
tsp
Salt
black
Onion
seeds
2
tsp
and pumpkin seeds
2
tsp
Sugar
2
tsp
Butter
1
whisked
Egg
optional
Instructions
Sieve the flour with
baking powder
, baking soda and
salt
.
In a large mixing bowl,combine the
sugar
,
milk
yogurt,eggs and
water
,kneading until the dough is soft.
Cover the dough in a wet cloth and set aside for an hour.
Divide the dough into 8 equal balls.
Smear a little
oil
and spread
onion
seeds on top.
Flatten the ball between the palm of your hands by rotating and flattening in the same motion.
Continue till you have a flat disc of 6 cms.
Now, stretch it from the lower end to form a triangle (as in picture).
Use a thick cloth to put the naan on a pre-heated tandoor or in a pre- heated oven at 200 degrees centigrade.
Remove using a skewer when the naan is crisp and brown.
:- Serve hot with a dollop of butter.
