Fry all the ingredients in a pan without oil.
When it is roasted, powder it coarsely.
Heat oil in a pan and fry the shallots well and keep aside.
Dhal can be cooked well in pressure cooker with salt, turmeric powder, onions, green chillies and tomato. Keep aside.
Cook vegetable separately with salt.
When its cooked well, add tamarind juice and dhal.
Let it boil.
Add 3 to 4 tsp of sambar powder and shallots.
When it comes to boil, remove from stove.
Heat oil in a pan.
Splutter mustard followed by curry leaves, fenugreek, asafoetida and garlic.
Pour the seasoning into the sambar.
