Sambar - Simple And Quick

Sambar : Dhal recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 150 gm Red gram Thuvaraparippu
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 cup Tamarind juice
  • 150 gm Small onions/shallots
  • 2 nos Onions cut into small pieces
  • 2 nos Tomato cut into small pieces
  • 3 nos Green chillies

For seasoning:-

  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds Uluva
  • ¼ tsp Asafoetida Kaayam
  • Curry leaves A handful
  • 3 nos Garlic pods

Instructions
 

  • Fry all the ingredients in a pan without oil.
  • When it is roasted, powder it coarsely.
  • Heat oil in a pan and fry the shallots well and keep aside.
  • Dhal can be cooked well in pressure cooker with salt, turmeric powder, onions, green chillies and tomato. Keep aside.
  • Cook vegetable separately with salt.
  • When its cooked well, add tamarind juice and dhal.
  • Let it boil.
  • Add 3 to 4 tsp of sambar powder and shallots.
  • When it comes to boil, remove from stove.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Splutter mustard followed by curry leaves, fenugreek, asafoetida and garlic.
  • Pour the seasoning into the sambar.
  • :- Good with rice, idly, dosa.
