Soya Bean Masala

Soya bean masala tastes like a non-veg dish with spicy flavor and yummy taste. Soya bean masala is an excellent vegetarian side dish in Kerala Cuisine that goes well with biriyani, porotta, chappati, pulao or even rice. The spiciness of the thick gravy in our soya bean masala is mild so it is suitable for kids too. Soya has a tendency to absorb any flavor that it is cooked with and hence requires more spices to make it flavorful. Our soya bean masala is cooked in a delectable range of masalas. Rich in protein and considered healthy, soya bean is a good alternate for those wanting to refrain from meat. Soya bean masala is quite delicious, filling as well as nutritious. Today we will learn how to make soya bean masala following this easy recipe in a limited time frame. The recipe is well illustrated in a simple manner.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups Soya beans
  • 2 nos Onions chopped, large
  • 1 no Tomato chopped, medium
  • Ginger chopped
  • 1 tsp Garlic paste
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 - Cloves Grambu
  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon(ground) Karugapatta
  • 4 tbsp Thick coconut milk
  • Salt As reqd
  • 2 - Oil
  • 4 cups Water
  • Curry leaves A few

Instructions
 

  • In a pressure cooker, add soya beans (washed), turmeric powder and 4 cups of water and cook well.
  • :- After one whistle, turn the flame off and keep for 15 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan or kadai.
  • Add onions and saute.
  • When it turns light golden colour, add tomato and ginger. Fry for 3 minutes.
  • Add garlic, cloves, cinnamon(ground). Mix well and fry for 2 mins.
  • Add chilli and coriander powder and mix well.
  • Add a little water and mix well.
  • Into this masala, add cooked and drained soya beans and mix well.
  • Add 1/4 cup of water.
  • :- Water left over after cooking soya can be used at this stage.
  • Cover and cook for another 3 minutes.
  • Add curry leaves.
  • Stir well intermittently.
  • Add coconut milk after the Soya Bean Masala gravy becomes thick.
  • :- Serve Soya Bean Masala hot with chappathi, roti, naan or rice.
