Mackerel (Ayala) Fish Curry

This North Malabar style Mackerel (Ayala) Fish Curry is a simple, healthy and tasty dish loaded with multiple health benefits such as Omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, vitamins and essential minerals. The tempting, tangy flavored Malabar styled fish curry, blessed with the goodness of thick coconut milk, goes well with hot rice and tastes perfect with almost anything. A variant from the usual fish curry, no pre-sauteing of spicy ingredients is required while preparing Mackerel (Ayala) Fish Curry. Cleaned Mackerel pieces are cooked in an earthen pot along with ginger, garlic, tamarind water and other ingredients. When the fish pieces are done, add coconut milk and a teaspoon of coconut oil for the distinct taste and ethnic flavor. You will find Ayala Fish Curry dish very interesting.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 nos Mackerals large
  • 1 no Red onion
  • 4 nos Green chillies
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • 4 nos Garlic pods
  • Tamarind water
  • 2 tbsp Red chilly powder
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt As required
  • Curry leaves few
  • 1 tsp Coconut oil or Vegetable oil
  • Coriander leaves
  • 1 cup Thick coconut milk or 1 small can of coconut milk

Instructions
 

  • In an earthen pot, place the cut and clean mackerals.
  • Add to it the cut onions, ginger, garlic, green chillies, curry leaves, coriander leaves, red chillie powder, turmeric and salt.
  • Pour the tamrind water and mix well.
  • Cook for 5 minutes.
  • :- Do not mix the fish or else it will break.
  • Pour the coconut milk.
  • Add 1 tsp of coconut oil or vegetable oil for flavour.
  • :- Enjoy with steamed rice.
