Instant Prawn Masala

Instant Prawn Masala is a superb side dish that goes well with almost anything. Kerala is a land with coastal areas and prawns are abundant here. Instant Prawn Masala is a lip smacking dish with a tasty and thick gravy. You will find the dish in top rated star hotels and prawns are very expensive too. The dish is unique and special with deveined prawns cooked in a spicy masala mixture until the prawns absorb all water and flavors. Prawns should not be overcooked since prawns tend to be hard and rubbery. The dish tastes awesome with a fragrant flavor and aroma. Prawns are rich in protein and calcium. Ingredients
  

  • 500 gm Prawns deveined - not precooked. Either frozen/fresh. Frozen prawns must be brought to room temp

For masala:-

  • 2 nos Tomato small finely chopped
  • 2 nos Onion finely chopped
  • 1 no Green chilly slit length wise
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 4 nos Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Kashmiri Chilly powder
  • Salt As reqd
  • 2 tbsp Oil

Instructions
 

  • First, add the prewash ingredients to the prawns and let it soak for 5 -10 mins.
  • Wash it 2 times. Let it drain the water.
  • Meanwhile heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
  • Add the onions and saute for 3 - 4 mins.
  • Add the curry leaves.
  • Add the green chilly, ginger garlic paste and fry well.
  • Add the tomatoes and fry until the tomatoes are nice and pulpy.
  • Add the turmeric powder and chilly powder and saute well for 2 mins.
  • Add the prawns and let it cook on slow fire for 10 - 15 mins or until the water from the prawns have absorbed up.
  • Keep mixing the prawns well every 3 mins so that they dont stick.
  • Add salt and mix well.
  • :- After it is cooked well, the mix would look thick with nice plump prawns.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • :- Enjoy with rice/chappathi.
