Crab Thoran | Njandu Thoran

Crab Thoran | Njandu Thoran is very famous in Kerala. This thoran can servde with hot rice. This thoran is very tasty and delicious. This main due to the coconut and other masla powder like pepper, garam masala. This crab thoran very easy after cleaning the shells and legs. We enhance more flavor with coconut oil, green chilli and curry leave. While we tempering with green chilli and curry leaves that aroma goes well to entire recipe and makes more flavorful. Crab is very good for health and inner flesh is very tasty and rich in calcium . This makes bone growth to all. Crab for the high phosphorous content is essential, especially if you want to maintain an active lifestyle as you get older. So now we can see this tasty thoran with simple steps.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 kg Crab
  • 1 big Ginger juliened
  • 4 nos Green chillies
  • Curry leaves A few
  • 2 cups Grated Coconut
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1 tsp Pepper powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 2 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves A few
  • 3 nos Dry red chillies Kollamulaku
  • Salt As reqd

Instructions
 

  • Clean the crab by removing the legs and outer shell and remove all the other dirts and wash it well.
  • Cut it into two pieces (2 halves).
  • Roast turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and pepper powder together in a pan without oil.
  • Mix the roasted masala with grated coconut.
  • :- Mix it well with hand for a better results.
  • Add juliened ginger, chopped green chillies and curry leaves to this coconut mixture and again mix it with hand.
  • Cook the crab pieces in a pan ( meen chatti is best) with little water, salt and little turmeric powder.
  • When the crab is cooked, add the coconut mixture along with garam masala and mix it well.
  • Cover it with a lid and cook until the dish is dry.
  • :- Because it is a `thoran` it should be dry.
  • Heat the oil in a pan.
  • Splutter mustard seeds and saute curry leaves and red chillies and pour it over the dish.
  • :- Serve hot.
