Kovakka Thoran

Gherkins or Kovakka Thoran finds an important place among Thoran side dishes in kerala. This Thoran goes perfect with a bowl of hot rice for noon day meals. Ingredients
  

  • 200 g Kovakka Gherkins
  • 1/4 of Coconut
  • 1/2 cup Small onions Kunjulli
  • 5 nos Green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 3 Small onions finely chopped for seasoning
  • Curry leaves Few
  • 3 nos Dry red chillies – 2 Kollamulaku
  • Salt As reqd
  • 3 tbsp Coconut oil

Instructions
 

  • For preparing, clean the kovakka well and cut them into small pieces.
  • Add to it the finely chopped small onions, green chillies, salt and turmeric powder.
  • Place it in a vessel along with 1/2 glass of water and allow it to cook.
  • Pound together the grated coconut and curry leaves in a mixer bowl.
  • Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
  • Splutter mustard seeds and saute finely chopped small onions, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
  • Add the cooked kovakka and the coconut mixture and mix well.
  • Cook further, till done.
  • a very tasty and nutritious side dish is ready.
