For preparing Vazhachundu Thoran, clean the whole green gram well and remove the unwanted stuff from it.
Cook it separately with water in a pressure cooker.
:- Make sure u don't overcook it.
Remove the first 3 to 4 outer covering of the vazhachundu and chop it very finely as u do for thoran.
Add coconut oil and turmeric powder into the above chopped kudappan and mix well the whole thing using your hands.
:- This is done to remove the kudappan's serum.
Place together the grated coconut, green chillies, garlic, cumin seeds and curry leaves in a mixer bowl and run it once to make it into a coarse form.
Mix it along with the chopped kudappan mixture.
Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
Splutter mustard seeds and saute dry red chillies, rice and curry leaves.
Add the kudappan mixture and mix well.
Cover and cook on a low flame.
After about 3 mins, remove the cover and add the cooked green gram into this and mix well.
Continue cooking without the lid on, till done.
:- Make sure Vazhachundu Thoran doesn't get mashed.
:- You can also add Red gram (Van Payar) instead of Whole green gram or Cherupayar.
