Tomato-carrot Dal

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup Toordal
  • 1 big carrot
  • 1 big Tomato or 1/2 cup finely chopped tomato
  • 2 slit green chillies
  • 3 nos garlic cloves
  • salt as required
  • 1.5 cups water

seasoning:

  • 1/4 tsp mustard
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • curry leaves few
  • 1/4 bunch cilantro
  • 1 nos red chilly

Instructions
 

  • Pressure cook dal+chopped carrot together with 1.25 cups of water for 3 whistles .Switch off the stove ,Don`t open the cooker until pressure is gone and set it aside until cool.
  • Meanwhile in another pan heat 2 spoons of oil and when heated add mustard seeds.Once the mustard seeds start to pop add the cumin seeds,2 red chillies,2 garlic cloves,chopped cilantro,curry leaves finely chopped tomatoes and onions and cook it covered until 5 minutes.
  • Finally add the cooked and mashed dal to the above seasoning.Mix salt and garnish with cilantro and switch off the stove and leave the dal aside covered for 10 more minutes.
