Beetroot Curry - North Indian Style

A delicious as well as nutritious Beetroot Curry prepared in North Indian Style and flavor. Beetroot pieces blended in green gram dal flavored gravy is simply delicious and yummy. Beets are rich in iron and are blood purifiers. Include colorful yet very simple Beetroot Curry in your menu chart at least once a week. Saute beetroot pieces along with garlic and other spicy ingredients in ghee. Cook the beets well until beetroot pieces are soft. Stir in cooked green gram dal and cook for a few more minutes. Add a dash of lime and garnish with coriander leaves. Enjoy North Indian Styled Beetroot Curry.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Green gram dal Cherupayar parippu
  • 3 nos Beetroot cut into small pieces
  • 1 no Onion cut into small pieces, big
  • 1 no Tomato cut into small pieces
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 4 - Garlic cloves
  • 3 - Green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds Jeerakam
  • 1 tsp Rice
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Lime juice
  • 2 tsp Ghee
  • Salt As reqd
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

Instructions
 

  • Heat ghee in a pan or a kadai.
  • Splutter cumin seeds.
  • Add onions and saute, till they turn brown.
  • Add garlic and saute followed by tomatoes and beetroot.
  • Grind together chillies, pepper, rice and some cumin seeds in the mixer grinder.
  • Add the above mixture to the sauteed vegetables.
  • Add sugar.
  • Add salt and cook for 10 - 15 mins or till the beetroot is cooked.
  • Pressure cook dal upto 3 whistles.
  • Add the cooked dal to the cooked vegetables and cook for another 5 mins on a low flame.
  • Transfer the contents to a serving dish.
  • Add lime juice to Beetroot Curry.
  • Garnish Beetroot Curry with coriander leaves.
  • :- Serve Beetroot Curry with rice or rotis.
