For preparing Tender Jackfruit Thoran, first grind together the red chillies and turmeric powder well.
Cook the vegetable along with the ground mixture, salt and required water.
When the jack fruit is cooked, mash the pieces.
Grind together coconut, small onions and curry leaves.
Heat oil in a pan or a kadai.
Add gram and mustard seeds.
When the mustard seeds splutter, add the red chillies and curry leaves.
Add the jackfruit strands and the ground coconut mixture. Check for salt and add salt if it seems necessary.
Saute the mix well in low flame.
Cover the pan and allow it to cook. Remove the lid and let all trace of water evaporate in low flame. Remove pan from fire.
:- Serve the delicious and nutritious dish with hot rice.
:- When you use canned jackfruit, drain the water in it and run the vegetable through cold water. This will remove excess sodium.
