Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups Raw rice Paccha ari
  • ½ cup Black gram Uzhunnuparippu
  • 2 tbsp Asafoetida powder Kayam
  • 1 cup Grated coconut
  • tbsp Chilly powder
  • 2 tbsp Gram
  • Salt As reqd
  • 100 gm Butter
  • Oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • Wash and clean the rice well. Leave it to dry.
  • Once it has dried completely, powder it nicely.
  • Fry the black gram till they become orange and powder it. Keep it aside.
  • Allow the gram soak in water for one hour.
  • Mix together the rice flour, black gram flour, soaked gram, grated coconut, chilly powder, asafoetida powder, salt and butter.
  • Heat oil in a kadai or a pan.
  • :- To test if the oil is hot enough, drop a pinch of dough into it. If it sinks, the oil isn`t hot enough. If the dough springs to the top with bubbles all around it, then the oil is ready.
  • Take a small sized ball of the dough, flatten it and make it into a circular shape.
  • Drop it gently into the hot oil and fry till golden brown.
  • Keep flipping the sides till the thattai is done.
  • :- Store Thattai in an air tight container.
