Peel and chop the plantains into pieces.
In a pressure cooker, add cleaned raw banana, red chilly powder, turmeric powder, salt and cook adding 1½ cup of water. Cook for 3 whistles.
Add 2 cleaned sardines and cook for 4-5 minutes.
Remove the bones of the Sardine, add few curry leaves and stir the cooked sardine and mix well.
Grind grated coconut, green chilli, fennel seeds, shallots and garlic by adding little water to a coarse mixture.
Add this mixture to cooked plantain and mix well.
Adjust the salt and cook covered for 4-5 minutes at low flame
Serve with rice or kanji.
