Muringapoo Thoran

Muringapoo Thoran or Drumstick Flowers Stir Fry is an awesome dish in South Indian Cuisine. Drumstick and drumstick leaves you would have heard quite well. Have you heard of Drumstick Flowers? If the answer is "No" then i strongly suggest you should try this healthy and tasty dish with a distinct flavor. Drumstick trees are quite familiar and you will note a tree in the backyard of almost all houses. Muringapoo Thoran is moderately spiced with the goodness of drumstick flowers which shrinks considerably in quantity, It is learnt that Drumstick flowers helps to reduce weight gain, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure and improves energy levels. So, as usual, I tried to make a recipe with the Drumstrick flowers and coconut as main ingredients and found it very tasty. It tastes wonderful with a resemblance to stir fried clams meat. Now therefore, i thought of sharing this recipe with you as well. This is one of the easiest of stir fry dishes that requires very few ingredients. Ingredients
  

  • 2 Cups Muringappoo
  • 1/2 Cup Grated Coconut
  • 1 Tblsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 Nos Onion Chop into small pieces
  • 1 Tsp Salt Add more if necessary
  • 1 Tsp Mustard seeds
  • 5 - 6 Nos. Curry leaves
  • 2 Tblsp Coconut/Refined Oil
  • 3 - 4 Nos. Sliced Green Chilli If possible, vertically sliced

Instructions
 

  • Heat Oil in a Cheenachatti/Frying Pan and burst Mustard seeds in this hot oil.
  • Add chopped onion and curry leaves and stir well.
  • Wait and stir in low flame till colour of onion and curry leaves turn into golden/brown,
  • Add the muringapoo along with red chilli powder and required quantity of salt and stir it further (without adding water).
  • After colour of the mix changes into golden, add the grated coconut and stir it well.
  • Cover the cheenachatti with a plate and cook the mix for another five minutes in medium flame.
  • Muringapoo (Drumstick flowers) Thoran is ready. This thoran can be served with chappathi/poori/cooked rice.
